Become a Hedonist in this Leisure Hotspot

Living in Hedon is an excellent idea, especially when you take into account its mix of quiet village life and close proximity to Hull. An attractive market town, its landscape is dominated by the Church of St Augustine, which took over 250 years to build, starting way back in 1190.

Hedon’s attractive Market Place presents traditional cobbles, buildings infused with centuries of character, and a busy market every Wednesday. Just a hop, skip and a jump away is the Town Hall, which is open to the public and home to a civic silver collection. For history buffs there’s also Hedon Museum, where over 900 years of heritage tell the tale of its origins as the first port on the River Humber.

When it comes to leisure, Hedon has plenty on offer. Rush Lyvars Fishing Lake is picturesque and serene, making it the perfect place to catch a whopper. The fascinating site of Fort Paull is only a short distance away too, presenting ten acres of magnificent views and Yorkshire’s only remaining Napoleonic fortress. Meanwhile the Kingstown Hotel contains Wacky Warehouse, allowing the kids to get some exercise whilst indulging their sense of adventure.

As a charming village, Hedon also presents countless opportunities for a good walk or cycle.

Whether it’s a case of exploring the surrounding countryside or burning some calories during a pub crawl, residents often take the opportunity to stretch their legs and get some fresh air. And with wide-open skies surrounding the place, you can get plenty of natural light during the day and then stargaze at night.

The area is also home to the impressive Burton Constable, which dates back to 1559. It was then greatly extended by many experts of the 18 th century, including celebrated landscaper Capability Brown. Today the site is a major tourist destination and a source of vast heritage, hosting Chippendale furniture, beautiful stained glass and a range of art works. With tearooms, parkland, stables and regular events, it’s a great spot for relaxing with friends and family.
