Holderness Road has been a thriving thoroughfare for a very long time. Originally farmland, the area hosted numerous windmills for many years. Only one remains, which now takes the form of The Mill, a popular pub.

The area is also the location of Garden Village, which stretches between Holderness Road and James Reckitt Avenue. Opened in 1908, the ambitious housing development was heavily funded by Sir James Reckitt, with two-thirds of the village allocated to his workers. With Morrisons at one end and Asda, Matalan, McDonald’s and DW Sports Fitness at the other, the area in-between hosts countless small businesses and independent shops. From carpets to groceries and takeaways to charity shops, you have everything you need right on your doorstep. There’s also a Boyes department store, plus a range of pubs and coffee shops, making it a busy shopping destination for people across the city.

Numerous flats are available down Holderness Road and many additional homes of all types can be viewed down its adjoining streets. Due to the area being so busy and highly populated, it has primary schools, GP surgeries, a dentist, opticians, veterinary practice and a range of other essential amenities spread throughout.
