Barnstaple is the regional centre and primary market town for North Devon and sits on the River Taw. It lies to the north of Dartmoor and to the west of the beautiful Exmoor National Park. It provides extensive shopping facilities with its traditional high street inter mixed with modern precinct shopping and out of town superstores. It has a partly pedestrianised centre and features many fine buildings and attractive narrow streets and alleys. Excellent leisure facilities are available as well as a regional railway link. There are some lovely beaches not far away such as Saunton Sands. It is an excellent base from which to explore the 180 mile Tarka Trail on foot or by cycle.Exmoor National Park with its spectacular scenery and excellent walking lies on the doorstep of the town.
