About Thornton Heath

Thornton Heath is found to the south of Charing Cross in the London Borough of Croydon. Specifically situated between Croydon and Norbury, Thornton Heath is a popular town for commuters due to its proximity to London.

There are plenty of things to do in Thornton Heath. As one of the most multi-cultural areas in Croydon it is a very vibrant town.

The high street offers a number of pubs, restaurants and local shops and with Croydon close by, you are never short of places to eat, drink and relax. Croydon also provides access to regular nightlife, entertainment and the Whitgift Shopping Centre offers a broader range of shopping choices. Another popular location among the local community of Thornton Heath is the Leisure Centre. It offers a great range of classes and facilities that make it a fun visit for all.

Founded in 2014, the Thornton Heath Community Action Team is a group of residents and business who aim to deliver area improving projects. They are working with the local community to make Thornton Heath an area that its residents can be proud of, and people want to be a part of.

Thornton Heath's architecture is predominantly Victorian. Two prime examples of this are St Alban's Anglican Church and St Paul's Church. St Alban's Church was built in 1889 and is now a Grade II listed building, it was the first church designed by late Victorian architect Sir Ninian Comper. Another interesting feature of Thornton Heath is the Clocktower. It is located on the junction of the high street and Parchmore Road and was financed partially by public funds in 1990.

From Thornton Heath station it takes approximately 25 minutes to get a train to London Victoria and 35 minutes to reach London Bridge.

Travelling via road in Thornton Heath is also easy, the A23 Brighton Road and the A236 Croydon Road are both major roads from which you can travel across Croydon and beyond.
