As its name suggests, Coalville is a former coal mining town, and coal was first mined in the area in medieval times. The coal mining industry was at its height during the 1800s, with railway lines built to transport the coal from the mines. The mines closed during the 1980s and many parts of the town have since been redevloped and now boast a variety of modern shops and restaurants.
Nearby are many attractive towns and village... Read mores, including Whitwick, Ravenstone, Thornton, Bagworth, Heather, Hugglescore and Newton Burgoland. To the east, lies Charnwood Forest.
